Tools You Need
Sealable Bag or Piping Bag – If using a plastic baggie make sure it is sturdy. You don’t want the seams to pop when squeezing out the chocolate.
Parchment Paper – This keeps the white chocolate from sticking, so you’re able to lift the extra white chocolate off and re-heat it easily.
What You Need to Make Mummy Oreos
- Oreos – Chocolate or Golden, with any flavor or color of filling – use the Halloween Oreos with orange filling for a festive touch.
- White Chocolate – Melting wafers, bars, chocolate chips or almond bar. I prefer using melting wafers for a luxurious consistency.
- Candy Eyes – These can be purchased down the cake-decorating aisle in most stores or ordered online.
- Mini M&M Eyes – If you can’t find candy eyes, press some mini colored M&Ms onto the melted white chocolate instead.
Variations
- Mummy Sugar Cookies – Make homemade sugar cookies and allow them to set. Proceed with instructions in the recipe card.
- Peanut Butter Mummy Cookies – Use Nutter Butters as your base cookie. Drizzle with the white chocolate and add the eyes!
- Poke a candy stick or skewer into the filling for a mummy pop. Serve them in a jar or vase for a fun and festive look.

- Melt Chocolate
- Drizzle

Tips
- Melt chocolate in 15-second increments to avoid burning. Stir in between because the heat of the melted chocolate will continue to melt the rest of the chocolate.
- Work quickly as you drizzle, in one swift motion for realistic mummies.
- Allow excess to dry, remove from parchment paper and re-melt as needed.
- Allow cookies to set until firm before removing from parchment paper.
How to Store
Room Temperature – Once white chocolate has set, store in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Put wax paper between layers to keep the mummies safe.
Refrigerator – Store in the fridge as you would at room temperature. The chocolate will be more brittle when cold, so make sure the cookies come to room temperature before eating.
In the Freezer – Go ahead and freeze! You do need to be gentle with them, though, because Oreos and white chocolate can become more fragile when cold. Place cookies in an airtight container, using wax paper between layers. Store for up to two months. Allow to thaw to room temperature, preferably placing in a single layer while thawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
The quickest way is in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring in between. You can also use a double boiler, where the heat and steam from boiling water melt the chocolate placed in a pot above (but not touching) the boiling water. Again, you need to stir frequently to avoid burning.
There are few different types of white chocolate, each with its own best use. For melting, white chocolate wafers hands down melt the easiest, fastest, and smoothest. They may not be 100% white chocolate, but that is actually better for melting. Baking chips and bars are great for baking, but can be more difficult to melt smoothly.
